V7 Cafe Racer Fairing

Postby sandy » Thu Oct 27, 2011 3:57 pm

My Stucchi fairing arrived this morning.
Been waiting months for this.
It is very expensive but all my cynicism over that evaporated the moment I had it un packed.
The quality is awsome.
The stainless bracket work alone is nothing short of bike porn.
I was told that it was going to be simple to fit for anyone with basic spannering skills, but having studied the instructions I think it could easily be an afternoon into the night type of job.
Well I plan to get cracking tomorrow, and here's the result I'm hoping for, but on my V7 Racer.
Fingers crossed,

Interesting that you got one. Would you care to tell us the story, the Stucchi site says that it's "Out of stock". No mention yet on the availability of the other planned colors (I want green).

Click on image to access the Stucchi page for this item.

Well I got wind of this months ago and immediately secured mine well in advance with a deposit.
Anna from Stucchi told me they made 20 on the first production run, and all of them were pretty much sold in advance.
It was a long wait with a lot of emails being bounced around.
Every month I'd get an email saying it would be ready the next month, and so on.
Well this is so typically Italian isn't it, but I can say hand on heart, it was worth the wait !!!
The picture you posted is slightly wrong, and it looks like a photo shop job, just to give an idea of how it will look.
I know that because the clocks do not sit in their original mountings as they appear to in that photo.
They have to be taken off and fitted to the fairing mounting hardware, so sit more forward, lower (under screen level) and static within the fairing, and independent of the bars.
As I have said, intial inspection after unpacking has been more than satifactory and the quality has to be seen to be believed.
The stainless hardware is a work of art.
When you see that, it makes you realise that actually, this is well priced.
The cost and time involved in creating bespoke hardware to this standard does not even bare thinking about.
Be warned though.
From what I can tell, this is not something you'll be able to have on or off as the mood takes you.
Fitting looks quite involved with some extensive re-routing of cableing, so when it's on, it's on.
It looks like the green is available, as you can "add to cart" from the website.
http://www.stucchiluigi.it/product.php?id_product=10129
Best is to phone them up, (they take ages to answer emails), and ask for Anna or Louis who can both speak pretty good English.
I'll take some pre fit photos later to give you an idea of what you're getting.
I'm going to wait for a clear uninteruppted day to fit it though, so that may take a little longer but hopefully I'll then be in a position to assist anyone else if they need help.
Rest assured, there is no issue with quality here.
It's worth every penny, and a whole lot more

It does look good. You can see some of the hardware in this shot:

Got a bit carried away today and fitted it.
Sorry, I got so involved I didn't think to take pictures.
Stucchi told me that this was easy to fit but now having done it, all I can say is I'm glad it's over.
I'm quite handy with the spanners but I found it very tricky.
The instructions are not clear and there are some mistakes.
For example, they tell you to feed the front brake light cable back through the mounting bracket cable tunnel, but if you do that, it won't reach to reconnect to the brake light switch housing so be warned,
I should have checked this before putting it all together but didn't, opting to take Stucchi's word for it and paid the price by having to pull it all apart again to re-route it
Also, the main support bracket bolts to the horn mouting lugs on the frame each side, and the front frame rail.
Trouble is that the driled holes in the bracket to not line up very well so once fitted to the side mounting points, the front holes don't marry up, and vice versa, so I ended up having to elongate the holes in the front of the bracket by a few mm.
That said, I stand by what I said earlier.
It's beautifully made and taking everything into account, is not really expensive if you consider the time and effort required to fabricate all the intricate mounting hardware.
Fiddly and time consuming to fit with a fair amount of using your own common sense as opposed to the instructions, yes but worth it in the end ?
Most definitely.
Pictures will follow tomorrow.

Thanks for posting this......looking forward to see any photos you can show.

I've been waiting for some info on this fairing or some time, as I'm pretty keen to put one on my Racer (#588).

Thanks for the info! I just ordered one of the STUCCHI LUIGI SPORT FAIRING KIT FOR V7 CAFE, GREEN
[PART NUMBER: MG333G] from MG Cycle.  They have them in stock & should ship it on Monday. My bike was going Green this week anyway due to a warranty replaced gas tank. The white was nice; but, when the Green came out I was envious.

It should be done in a week or so & I'll post pictures too.
