HB Crashbars

Postby Twinsport » Wed Oct 20, 2010 11:58 pm

Hi everyone, I just mounted a set of Hepco and Becker crashbars on my Quota. Ive heard some weren't impressed with the HB Bars. Anyway my disappointment lies in the gap between the bars behind the forks. What Im looking at is building a cross-member between the two sides hopefully strengthening the bars.
Any thoughts? Should I make more than one set?
Cheers

Hi Brian,

How do you plan on attaching the cross brace? Seems like a good idea to support the bar mid span. The HB crash bars on my buddy's quota were re-welded (before he bought it). One side failed right where the horizontal bar meets the vertical bar along the front. It doesn't seem likely that a cross brace will prevent that from happening again. Maybe a welded or bolted gusset or knuckle at that joint will keep the two pieces from separating.

Post drawing of what you're thinking of doing.

Ive basically got 2 ideas, one is a piece of pipe with sleeves at either end to fit inside the HB crashbars where they would be pinned or bolted. The other is weld the extra pipe onto the HB crash guard and bolt it together in the middle like the Givi crashgaurds on my Vstrom.
Cheers
