Quota with only one front brake

Postby damal37 » Tue Apr 27, 2010 6:52 pm

I am looking at a 2000 1100ES quota that has only 1 (ONE) front brake. The owner of this bike purchased this bike with only 900 miles and he swears that it has only ever had one front brake. I have searched the Yahoo forum and there are a few posts from a few years ago that also describe a similar bike (Quota 2000 1100ES) with only one front brake. Some respondents stated that it must have been removed. I am reluctant to purchase this bike until I have an answer that makes sense to me. This is an otherwise beautiful bike with only 13XXX miles. Help me please. Thanks Al Damschroder aljaned@chartermi.net

Dirt riders prefer one front brake.

I'm guessing this bike was owned by someone who fancied himself a dirt roads hard charger, so in order to be in with the cool kids, he removed one of the front brakes...

Is the one brake that is there a two or four piston caliper? If it was converted to a four piston, that may be enough front brake. If only the two piston, it is still a good bike, just pay a price taking into account the cost of adding the second rotor and caliper to bring her back to stock. Quotas used much different rotors than other Guzzis, best to buy the OEM rotors if still available. I'd check that they are available before buying the bike.

Does it have the mounting lugs where the other caliper go?
If it was a two caliper bike and someone converted it to one caliper then the question of the master cylinder size comes to mind. A master cylinder for a two caliper system is too large, it displaces too much fluid, and will not have good feel or performance if they did not change it out for one sized for one caliper.
