Hi,
Does anyone know of a trick to install these snap-in signal lens I'm using on my '87 Lemans without breaking the two tabs?
There is an image of the lens here:

Re: trouble w/ snap-in signal lens '87 LemansThese were used on the LMs III, just happen to have a spare lens and entire t-signal assembly lying around.
I just figure it out by looking at the shape of the tabs. Looking at the lens head on gives you the plan view. Both short sides have tabs - on the thinner short side (narrow end taper) the tabs are L shaped, these should be seated first. Then the other side (thicker end taper) can be pressed in with finger pressure. If you look closely at the second set of tabs you can see that they have a radius-ed face. These will slide then snap in. I took out the lens out by using a swiss army bottle opener by inserting the blade into a slot at the radiused tab - held it with a firm grip once the lens moved then did the second of the pair the same way - kinda tricky. good luck. Re: trouble w/ snap-in signal lens '87 LemansYes...quite tricky as the lens tabs are very brittle!
Thanks and I'll give it a try again
Re: trouble w/ snap-in signal lens '87 LemansWarm them, they will be less likely to snap. Hot water, heat gun or leave in the sun.
Most of mine have broken over the years. I now just use some contact adhesive. I put a small amount on and hold the lens onto the rest by a rubber band for a few hours. Once set it just seems to work. Easy enough to remove if the bulb goes.
Re: trouble w/ snap-in signal lens '87 LemansHi,
I'll try the warm water thing..... I bought 4 and broke two but in the end used two of the broken ones. Made some trick looking trim out of black Gorilla tape and tapes the seems. Just a casual look and you would never notice. Thanks for the suggestions....Brian
