what to do about dodgy S/H forks from dealer ?I have been building a cafe racer over the past few months and in doing so I have been in contact with a certain German Guzzi specialist with years of racing and building experience for their parts etc.
I have bought many parts and have been very pleased, until recently. A recent purchase was a set of Forcella Italia 40mm Forks and yokes. They were second hand and had been used on the companies race bike which had won the german series this year. We agreed a price and I had then shipped over. only recently my engineering company which has been wedling some brackets to the frame for me spotted some problems with the forks. The main problem is the brake mount lugs on the sliders, all four have been repaired and helicoiled, but much worse is that one of the mounting lugs has a crack going right across it and the other (which had obviously been welded ) came off in their hands when dismantling the forks. I am now left with a useless set of forks and not sure how to approach the dealer in Germany I bought them from ? (I live in the UK) what do people think ? how would you approach this one for a good outcome ?
Re: what to do about dodgy S/H forks from dealer ?First, Be nice. Since you have been a long time customer explain to them what you found with the forks. Ask them if they can help you out to resolve the problem. Ask nicely and if the are a reputable concern, they should let you return the forks for a refund, or help you get a good set of forks for little to no additional cost.

Re: what to do about dodgy S/H forks from dealer ?Just been very nicely surprised and the German dealer has offered to take them back and offer a full refund, or send them back for him to repair. or keep them and he will pay for repair.
Cant say better than that hey ! very pleased, there actually are nice people left in the world
Re: what to do about dodgy S/H forks from dealer ?I guess it is time now to go to the local pub, and come to a decision

Re: what to do about dodgy S/H forks from dealer ?Just wanted to update you guys because the dealer concerned has really impressed me and proved to be a really nice honest Guy and these days that deserves a little praise.
The issue with the forks was an unusual one in that they were old forks made of Magnesium. The sliders needed small repairs to the caliper lugs. Any one that knows this material will realise this is a difficult job and it was proving difficult to get the work completed. (I sent them from the UK back to Germany) I asked the dealer to refund my money and he did so without any problem at all. He also threw in some stainless engine bolts and 50 euros towards my cost for having to send them back to him. The dealer concerned is HT Moto in Germany . Hartmut has proved to be a great guy to deal with and I cant recommend him highly enough for his work with Guzzis. He has proved to also be a great source of information and given me loads of advice and tips for my cafe racer build. Thanks Hartmut.
Re: what to do about dodgy S/H forks from dealer ?I have had some dealings with Hartmut, and agree that he is a wonderful vendor. But to be honest, all my dealings with Guzzi vendors over the past 30 years such as MGCycle and Agostini's have been A++. Must be Good Guzzi folk.

Re: what to do about dodgy S/H forks from dealer ?Its nice to hear a good ending to such a story for once, and all credit to you for staying calm and dealing with the situation rationally. HT Moto eh? Might have to give them a look
I have 2 Guzzis and... they both $*!@in' work! What gives?
