Bagster Custom Seat

Postby sbaker » Mon Jan 23, 2012 1:59 pm

Hello All... well, UK and other non-USA Norge riders

Does anyone have any experience with the Bagster custom seat for the Norge 1200GT? How about the Bagster Tank cover??

Thanks !

I need to read more carefully. I was about to post a couple of pics of my tank cover and bag when I reread your post and saw where you were asking UK and non-USA NORGE riders to respond. If you decide you need a close up of the cover and one of their small bags on a 1200 Sport, and comments about the fit, let me know. Of course, the Norge Tupperware may be different around the sides of the tank, which would make my info worthless.

Hi Bob;

I am sorry.. I didn't think that anyone in the US had a Bagster Seat... They are custom, but look really nice... If you would post a pix of your Tank Cover, that would be really nice.. thanks... I think the 1200 Sport has the same gas tank as the Norge so the pix would be appropriate.

Thanks

Sam, here's a couple of pics of my 2008 1200 Sport with Bagster tank cover and one of the smaller Bagster bags. My biggest complaint is that the transparent 'windows' in the tank cover don't exactly line up with the Guzzi logos on the fuel tank. And the cover (at least mine) need just a tad more material on both sides to totally cover the tank. You'll be able to see this in the pics.

The good. Once in place the cover stays put, and the neat attachment mechanism makes accessing the fuel filler cap quite easy ........ undo the rear snaps and pivot the bag forward and rest it on the small fairing on the Sport. This would obviously work a bit differently with the Norge fairing or with a larger tank bag. It is quite pleasant to have a tank bag that isn't easily blown off center by a strong cross wind. Of course, the tank cover works with several different size Bagster tank bags, so in that respect it is a flexible system.

I have both on my Norge 2007 .
Bagster tank cover : good protection of the tank but not easy to put on. Specially for the strap underneath : be carefull when passing it under the tank. The tank size hasn't changed from the 2007 to the new 8V model , so I guess this should be comparable.

I have a Corbin heated saddle - but never used the heathing system . The seat is firmer than the orginal MG seat , but on long traject it gives better suport to the bottom. It's also a bit less wide , so easer to get to the ground with your feet.
The seat is also better sculpted , so gives better suport and less sliding when wet.
Although the choice depends a lot on how you're build - it's very difficult to make a choice just based on some text and pictures and Corbin saddles don't come cheap.I had the oppertunity to make a test drive for half a day - so a lot depends on the service from your local dealer and availability.

I have no idea how much I paid for the Bagster cover and the Corbin seat. Will have to go through my invoices next week. I didn't have to buy a Bagster tankbag - already got one from my Honda VFR days. Yes I saw the light and after 20 years of Honda I found the light and switched to MG.

I'm on business travel so can't make any pictures. Will send one next week upon arrival home.

I do mainly long trips : minimum 150 à 200 km / trip. I just passed the 100.000 km mark on the clock.
I bought a Stelvio 1200 in 2011 , so the Norge is less used now. Got the Stelvio end august 2011 - just passed the 10.000 km mark. Just love the bike.

I bought a Stelvio and not a new Norge just to have something different - I'm keeping the Norge anyway. Woud love to make the 200.000 km mark within a few years.

I just love the MG engine. I know it's not perfetc , but it has loads of carracter compared to the Japanese and BMW bikes.

Save driving and enjoy your MG. Take care. Marc (Belgium)

I have been using a Bagster cover and tank bag for years on different bikes and they are very good.
Like the previous answer the plastic windows do not line up with the tank badges perfectly. I suppose you could blank these out with something in black.
The obvious seat upgrade at the moment is the new Norge 8v seat which fits all similar models.

Here's some additional info:

Bagster site: I dealt with Fero.
http://www.rideaddict.com/2004-2007moto ... ck1-1.aspx

I purchased the tank cover and "Newsign" tank bag in March of 2011. Prices have apparently gone up several $$ since then:
March 2011
Tank Cover: $155.00
Tank Bag:$110.00

Currently on the site where I purchased:
Cover: $195.00
Tank bag: $140.00

Agree with Marc - the bottom strap must be carefully installed so as not to pinch off or rub any of the hoses or wires under the fuel tank. I pulled the rear tank hold down bolt and blocked the back of the tank up so I could see where I was routing the strap.

Bob

BTW - what's with the new Norge saddle? Flatter, narrower? Sounds like it could be an improvement over the stock saddle, even though I had Sargent re-pad with more dense foam.
