ECU removal

Postby bobra » Fri Sep 11, 2009 1:56 pm

Hi all

I've opted to take on Todd's ECU upgrade but I'm a total dweeb in this area. Can anyone provide some "Guzzi-mechanics for Idiots" style guidelines on removal of the ECU on the Norge? Don't assume anything! Tell me where it is, what it looks like and how to get the sucker out. The warranty is gone so I've gotta start sometime.

Thanks in advance

Cheers

Rob

This is goint to be interesting.
It's up under the headstock above the alternator, but how on earth you get it out I have no idea. I couldn't even get to the main plugs.

I had to get at it to install my HID lights.

Tank off
Oil cooler unbolted and let swing out of the way
Need a Looooong extension on a socket and gorilla bendy arms to reach both top and bottom of the bolts.

The two bolts holding the HID igniters are what hold the ECU in place, which is directly under the frame in the pic.

Thanks Mike and Brian - I got it out today but it's not easy . I'll post some pics later tonight if I can work out how.

Cheers

Well, for what it's worth, here's my experience with the ECU removal.

First all the tupperware needs to come off, then;

Thanks for sharing. This will be of great help to many. I guess my 1200S will be similiar, sans the fairing.

I was able to remove the ECU from my 1200S without unbolting the oil cooler. With a little work I was able to slide it to the left under the top frame tube and get it free. Just have to get the wiring harness out of the way first.
