Hi All,
Just making my first post to the forum and general introduction. The V7 Racer is my second Moto Guzzi having previously owned a 1987 Le Mans Mk IV. Some on this list may remember it and one in particular shimmed its gearbox and did some fettling on it over the time I had it. Oh yeah it burnt to pieces in my garage once too! At any rate I am now the owner of my first smallblock. I am intrigued with the small light weight motorcycle at present and when the V7R came up I couldn't ignore it. It is number 396 of who knows how many were sold. Looking forward to modifying it in the future, but for now I will simply get used to it and just ride along.
One thing I have noticed is a sort of flat spot between 2000 & 3000 rpm in second gear and it runs out of revs entirely at 8000rpm in any gear. Is this normal? I have never had a fuel injected bike before. I purchased it with 2300 kms on the clock so it should be run in I suspect. It also came with the pillion option seat kit. I have just received a recall modification letter in regard to the fuel cap. No idea what that is about as it seems OK.
At any rate I look forward to making new acquaintances, meeting old friends and learning as much as possible about the small block 750.
All the best

2300 km? Its nowhere near run in. 8,000 rpm is pretty high for a traditional 2 valve, push rod motor with a reasonably long stroke.

I've read that the flat spot can be fixed with a set of staintune pipes. I can't verify that but I'm sure someone with one will confirm.

The cap modification will be regarding the air vent, is my guess. Some blocked and with the tank in the sun pressure increased and the plastic tank expanded. The paint wasn't flexible enough to cope. I'd get this done as a matter of priority.

8 days ago I picked my 2012 #195 from the dealer. The motor is very linear in its power delivery and doesn't have any noticable flat spots. I would however suggest staying away from running in the 2 - 3000 RPM zone as it is lugging the motor. I also suggest staying away from the 8 grand side of the tach as you are off the power curve and punishing the motor. These are great little devices but power houses they ain't. That's what is so fun about the SB's, I traded a bike with an excess of 140HP from another Italian manufacturer to get the racer. No regrets so far as the other bike I was probably wasting 80HP of its talent.

Welcome to the dark side! Smallblocks are a lot of fun. A set of less restrictive exhaust pipes will make a noticeable difference in that low rpm flat spot. You have quite a choice now, Guzzitech makes some, Staintune, Mistral, Agostini, Zard, (I think), etc....
There are a growing number of good internet resources for the small block Guzzi's as well. This forum of course, and the smallblock group on Yahoo, http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/MG_750/. Lots of good info there.
Wildguzzi is fun too.
Oh yeah, this thread is worthless without pics!!! LOL
