I need help. Pizza nad beer at my place?

Postby Spaceclam » Thu Oct 27, 2011 7:46 am

So, as some of you may have seen in the griso tech forum, i am having an issue with my g11.
Yesterday, it got much worse. after a long commute, it started squealing, loudly. IT would start and stop abruptly, but it was extremely loud. I do not smell clutch, and while the whine was only while under load, the squealing, once it started, wouldn't stop until i downshifted into first. The pitch of the whine varies not by speed, so much as load. (IE if i put it into a higher gear at lower speed and crack the throttle open, the whine goes up in pitch even though the speed doesnt change much). The hotter it is, the worse it gets. The longer i ride it, the worse it gets. When the bike is cold, everything seems fine.

So its obvious i need to take things apart (might as well replace the clutch while i am at it) but I have never cracked into this before, and im not exactly sure what the problem is, or what i should be looking for.

So i propose to you- Are there any southwest guys around here who i can bribe with pizza and beer (or something else?) and have worked on their drivetrains before to help me figure out what on earth is wrong, and fix it?

Taking this bike to a dealer is not an option. Some of you may remember why.

I have all the necessary tools (including an engine hoist) to do the job.

Cheers everyone,
-Andrew

Not much traffic over here these days, is there? Sorry, I don't begin to have the mechanical knowledge to be of any significant help to you. I do understand why you wish to avoid dealers given your past experience, but are you determined to do it all yourself? I'm thinking Sean Fader, formerly employed at Moto Guzzi Classics & before that at other shops here & in the Bay area, I think. Long, long experience on Guzzis, superb general wrenching skills, & dying to see more Guzzis at his new independent shop that he himself owns, RTL Moto in Costa Mesa, web site here:

I realize the logistics may be difficult. However, doubt you can do better anywhere in the LA Basin area. I know Todd thinks very highly of him as well, as do others in the area who have benefited from his skills, as have I.

Is Moto Guzzi Classics in Long Beach still around, and if so has anyone used them for repairs since Fader left? BTW the link for RTL Moto doesn't open for me.
Thanks, Ed

Works for me.

As it happens I am taking my Norge there tomorrow for service after 5K. and undo whatever the last mechanic may have done.

I'm sure MG Classics is still there. Haven't used them in the few months since Sean left-though I certainly used them many times before he got there.

RTL link works for me-and obviously you could just type the address in to your browser. If that doesn't work, then seems to me you have a browser problem.
