Kentucky Rally 2011

Had a great time at the rally north of Frankfort, KY.

Bob Annandale & I met at Zion Crossroads, VA, and slabbed it up I64E all the way to where US 60 cuts northeast. Man, I love that road! We had a great time wrangling its twisties. We picked up 64 again south of Charleston & rode it to Huntington.

The next day, we had hoped to do mostly secondary roads to the rally site. But the drenching rain made us reconsider; slabbing all the way to the rally made sense. By the time we arrived, though, the rain dissipated and the evening was great--sunshine till a brilliant sunset, then clear most of the night.

The first night was "the drinking night," as it were. Lots of bottles of different whiskeys making the rounds (some legal, some not so much ;) ). Beer, too, for those who wanted it. The chilis were great--many thanks to Donna & Carla!

Sunday we woke up to more rain. So Bob & I hung around the campsite, kicking tires & telling lies. By 11, his friend Mouser showed up on his B750. After lunch at the campsite (I cooked burgers for a dozen folks), Bob, Mouser & I went to Buffalo Trace Distillery. Highly recommended. Next we wound our way to Woodford Reserve, so Mouser could get some souvenirs for a friend of his. We rode through some more horse country and then back to the campground.

Another nice dinner, fun with awards & door prizes, and more conversations made for a nice evening. Sunday we woke again to rain, but it ended before we packed up our tents. The three of us had breakfast at Hardee's, then Mouser headed north while Bob & I headed east. We reversed our route, and we got rained on only around Charlottesville.

All in all...a great weekend!
