What is an interesting road in Kansas ?

Postby motoguzziman » Tue Jul 26, 2011 9:19 pm

OK I am currently in Rocky Ford, Colorado, on route 50. Heading East.
Looking at the map, we can use 50 to just before Garden City, then go north on 83.
That gives us the choice of 96 to Great Bend, that turns into 56 etc...
OR
A bit higher up, puts us on rte 4. that we can follow ,to just before Topeka.
We try to avoid the city routes, so motoguzzimomma can get photos of " Whatever "

So ? anybody got an Idea ?
Any hints would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

If you are getting that close to Dodge City I'd recommend going there to see the old west town. Bit of a tourist spot, but worth seeing. From there you have several options depending on where your next destination is. Also there are good steak houses in that town.

KS-4 would be a good choice. Quite a few interesting places to see, and not a bad road for riding.

My recommendation would be to avoid Dodge City. It has grown well beyond what it once was (by multiple and huge meat packing plants) and there are plenty of other towns that will give you a better flavor of what a small Kansas town is really like.

Thanks for the responses.
We did the old town last year, it was interesting, this year we just wanted to try a different route. I decided to see route nr 4. no particular reason, just seemed out of the way.
Anyway, found a motel with laundrette in La Crosse, where we will be staying for a day or two, and it turns out that Kansas has a motorcycle museum, in Marquette, about an hour's ride from here,on route 4 so ,once the riding gear is dry & we have had a day or two to sort other stuff out, we will be going there for a look, and I will get some piccys for the site.
Take Care Out There.

Highway 4 is a very nice ride. The museum in Marquette is a must see. I take it in whenever I go west from my house. Highway 4 going east from marquette is a beautiful flint hill's ride.
