New 1400 8V pics

Thanks to our MG Swiss friends for the photos... more to come. Odd/interesting that they put a second valve cover over the first of the 8V engine. Note the twin spark plugs, and plastic(?) oil pump gear.

The 1400 looks like a single port - makes sense to me! The dual port in the Quota is pointless and a PITA to tune. The 1400 cast manifold ensure a balanced flow.

Great pics, thanks!

this is way cool but 1400 cc's? I'm waiting for the 8v 1151cc version to be bumped to like 1200 plus and liquid cooling. Stick it with around 150 - 160 ponies and about 20 or so lbs lighter than the current 489 lb Griso 8v1200. Now we're talking seriously fast and we can thumb our noses at the "neked" Ducs.

here my pics from mandello and 1400 engine. It has drive by wire and sparkplugs with coils build in, reason for the high head?

Thanks Paul! Great shots. Still have the affinity for the old 998 4V I see(?), love it.
Loved the reverse heads Guzzi.

Gee Paul, if those 1st pictures didn't have an EXIF date, I'd have sworn they were from a different trip! I've heard about torrential rains on the return from GMG2011, but not snow...

Anyway, high heads like that are not going to be a boon to the taller rider ... or shut we cut out our knees like they suggest to cut out the new Cali tank?

Somebody correct me but, looking at the pics of the 1400, looks like the high valve covers are more a styling element than an engineering necessity. The plugs and boots are all located under these covers so oil must not be under there. Looks like they would have tried to keep the engine more compact without all that air space under the faux valve covers. Am I seeing this wrong?

You are not, but this is a pre-production model, so it could be (and I suspect it will be true) that the final version will not have the inner 8V valve cover beneath. They do not seem concerned with the height.

The dual spark plugs make sense -- they will allow Guzzi to meet the lower emissions levels and eliminate surge by giving more complete combustion at ultra-lean A/F Ratios.

It is the same approach that BMW took on their 1150/1200 oil head engines and that Suzuki took when they redesigned the Wee-Strom in '07.
