ECU HELP!!!!

Postby Ghost_Bullet » Sun Jan 29, 2012 1:40 am

Hi, I have a griso 2006 1100.
The ECU on the dash is sayig it is not connected.

The bike was running all fine, until this plug at the rear end, as I was looking at things to connect some aux power to. Though not looking at the book, I may have really done somthing bad?
This conector/power, run to the ecu?

The ECU is connected, I have taken it out to look at and reconnect, unpowered the bike, left it, and repowered/reboot, and still the same error.

I have a big ride on this coming weekend, and hate to think I have devastated my machine through some serious fuck up on my part.

Any info more than greatly appreciated.

Cheers

So this is what happened, one of those no brainer, forth research, just get into the job.
I recently put a second hand USA loom and second hand ECU from New Zealand. The US loom has a GPS cable on it.
So I thought... I wire my hotgrips and Aux power through that lead..... But no power there at all, so rather than find out why. I thought maybe I could use one of the wires at the rear, so choosing the one pictured above... connected a couple of wires to it, and bzzzz. mmmm.

Turn the bike on and big words saying ECU disconnected. WHat the?
So from here I am freakin.... I have a rally to attend this coming weekend... this bike is Italian... beautiful and fab to ride. Part bits and parts could be months away.
I check all the fuse's and relays, pull the ecu out check the pins and all that, put back together...

Come inside and write this HELP thread, check out the manual and wirring diagram.

I find the plug I was plugging into was "capaciter resetting" line...whatever that is. And runs through the 3amp fuse. But I had swapped the spare fuse and still nothing... mmmm I was thinking.

So back inside to see if I had a reply here yet.... nothing... my heart was sinking.

God damn it, back to the garage again. .... back to the fuses, this 3amp one was bugging me. It is an odd one in that you cant really see through it very well. So I thought I got nothing to loose now, lets try the next size up being a 15A.
And what do you know, everything goes back to normal. ECU fires things up and the bike FIRES into action. WHew... and I mean that was a massive WHEW!!!!! A cup of tea and bourbon and coke.... still feeling a little frazzled.

But that is the story... I did not fuck the bike and I can still go to the rally. And I have wired my aux power and hotgrips direct to the battery, not going to attempt to wire things into the loom at all.

Pictures of the weekend to come will be posted in this thread next week. ;)

Be sure to switch that ECU circuit back to a 3 amp fuse. If something causes the 15 to go, it will take the ECU with it.

I bought some replacements, but currently only stock 5amp, so just for now thats whats in there. Yeah would not want to stick with a 15. I dont want to go down the road again of trying to find another ECU.
