My oil temp sensor on griso failed waiting for new one from Italy. Is it possible to bridge this out to get bike running?

Hi,

If you are referring to the Engine Temperature Sensor (circled in red), here’s a temperature-resistance chart extract from Moto Guzzi manual.

I BELIEVE, Moto Guzzi uses a generic Magneti Marelli WTS05 temperature sensor found on many Italian motorcycles and cars. The Ducati dealer around your area may have a handful laying around

I believe your bike will continue to run without the engine temperature sensor, meaning that you could unplug it until a replacement is obtained.

From the Breva 1100 Service Manual (same engine as the Griso):

********************************************************************************
Recovery function

In case any of the following sensor signals is disturbed the computer continues operation with replacement values. ...
Engine temperature: 30 degrees C, with linear increase parallel to air temperature
********************************************************************************

Got to RB this morning to hear , "you need oil pressure sensor not temp, this is the part we have ordered but could take 3 months? went back to Italian auto center got oil pressure switch(5927407 = gu31768780) price $10.61Will ask RB to fit this, the only difference is that it has a spade terminal and think MG part has diff. terminal. If so will ask them to just fit spade connection. Hopefully bike will be running next week.

I can have one to you in a couple of days but if you're after the oil pressure sensor switch I'd suggest un-plugging it and giving the c0nector a spray with contact cleaner after drying it with compressed air and plugging it back in. Chances are it is just a water-short. I have a customer with a Bellagio, (Same switch.) I did this with and the problem went away.

What errors is the dash showing DB 7 & 8?

thanks Pete , already taken the Fiat part to the dealer will see if that solves the problem, this fault did appear after leaving the bike in rain, can't remeber the fault code that came up, it happened as i was about to go overseas at xmas, so had to arrange the bike pickup while overseas, the part supply times x Italy unacceptable am going to compile alternative supply list, which will be cheaper also. Most sensors seem to have a generic alternative??

I had a lot of problems when I replaced the oil pressure switch for a spade type on my Breva 1100. It's just a pressure switch I thought, and it fits, so what could be the problem? It worked, but not for very long. After several swap outs, I ordered the genuine article, and the problem disappeared. YMMV.

Joe, have you tried sourcing parts from Moto Kiwi on Waiheki Island? Pete often has parts in stock that the agents do not hold, and his prices are usually more attractive to. Contact details are (09) 372-5312.
