Postby GT-Rx » Fri Jun 25, 2010 1:40 pm

All, we are now making available our crack-proof Y-pipe (shown below with GT-Rx L/S Meg) for those in need if replacement, or just want a more efficient exhaust exit and sound. This will work with the OEM muffler or most aftermarket slip-ons as well.
Price is $350 shipped within the lower 48 US. Contact me direct to order.

is it louder? How does it affect throttle response/power?

Hi, Andrew.

That is my bike in the pic. You are certainly welcome to come check it out in person if you like.

Since I haven't had the stock exhaust on the bike for a very long time, I have no basis for comparison against the stock components.

But I can tell you that my bike runs extremely well in its current configuration, with no flat spots that I can tell.

The sound from the exhaust is definitely louder than stock, but far from objectionable.

I did compare a plain steel version of this crossover to the stock one, and the differences were that it was a little louder on over-run, and the revs seemed to spin up a little quicker than before.

Right now, the only running mods to my bike are the exhaust and the removed carbon canister.

Just FYI, removing the canister drastically reduced the low throttle position abruptness that most of these bikes seem to have when stock.

Ride safe and WEAR YOUR GEAR!!

Todd,
How's the clearance on the shift lever & exhaust heat on left foot?

Will it work on an 8V?

There's plenty of clearance for the shift level, and the exhaust heat is no issue, as far as I can tell, and I have ridden it on a couple of fairly hot days (+100 degrees).

My bike is an 1100, so I cannot comment on the fit on an 8V.

They're the same, right Todd?

I have read that that the "U" shaped exhaust was to create the proper back pressure to facilitate the correct exhaust scavenging, otherwise, why would the factory put such a corny u into the exhaust. As I am going to the full boat setup, is this a device I should get before the install, or with the AT setup, just add it when covenient. I am a moron, but I recall that there was significant valve overlap and that the exhuast was utilized to prevent excess flow through of fuel mixture, a result of using the old guzzi engine. I also understand that the 8V has completely different issues. My understanding is that the same things that worked on the old 2V guzzi's works on the the the new 2V guzzi's, you just have to get there a different way. I will have the full setup next week or so and will let you know. Glad todd is working this stuff, or we'd be stuffed
cheers,

Thanks Jack(!).

John it will work on the 8V, yes. Contact me direct for details.

Jon, curious as to where you read this. With the stock muffler, I can't imagine the engine needing any additional back pressure, as it's nearly a banana in the tail-pipe as delivered.

This looks lovely, but does it put the pipe at the original angle?

I'd love one, but I use Hepco Becker luggage and I'm concerned that it will stop me fitting the left side pannier :(
