V11 Sport rear drive fit a 1100 Sport Swingarm ?

Postby 5154Guzzi » Sun Jan 15, 2012 12:13 pm

If anybody out there can help, I dont know if this is possible, but can a V11 Sports series rear drive be adapted to a early 1100 sport rear swingarm ? okay with making mods, cutting welding etc, seriously exploring that gearing option for the next generation LSR bike that i`m working on. I dont know what the difference are between them, do have a 1100 carb sport chassis and drive to work with though, but need taller gearing. Hopefully ooking at buying a good used V11 Sport variant rear drive, or maybe borrow one in So Cal for mockup purposes if possible. more ambition than brains...

Thanks, Bill

There will be several issues Bill. Apart from the enormously tall ratio if used with a five speed the V11 uses a 20 spline set-up on the pinion, (Not a huge problem, just it would need a special driveshaft.) The most serious problem though would probably relate to wheel offset. I simply don't know whether you would be able to get the wheel alligned with the centreline of the bike???

Thanks Pete,
I use a 20 spline rear drive now (Convert ) with a long shaft ( EV11 swingarm ) that is a 10 by 20. Is it the same 20 spline pattern ? I may make this a hard tail which is common on the salt. I was hoping to run the 18" non cush wheel that came on the early Daytonas and Sports. the mongo gearing would probably let me go 17" as well with better Race tire selection. A little offset might be alright for a straight line ? i`ll research that further with some of the other LSR folks. Might be able to make and install a spacer between the wheel and the drive hub with a longer inside bearing spacer also if it`s not too extreme... yeah ? Yes, still want to stay with the 5 speed, 4th would be good for 203 at 8500 and about the same in 5th at 7400 with a Jackal trans. Getting the motor to make the req hp has it`s own set of multiple issues...
