Removing Fuel Tank on a V7 Cafe

Postby roofus » Fri Feb 03, 2012 9:04 am

I would appreciate some advice from the more experienced forum members.

I am attempting to install a Stucchi fairing on my 2010 V7 Cafe.

I am in the process of removing the fuel tank. The petcock doen't seem to have an off/on valve. When I undo the fuel line, will the petcock close or does it stay open all the time and let the fuel flow freely?

Thanks! :?:

I have no experience with the small block bikes, but if the fuel pump is located in the tank, then there is no petcock required, and only a little dribble will occur when you remove the fuel line.

Well, that's the way it is for the CARC big block models. and from the look of the parts manual for the Breva 750, the same applies there.

You will need to learn the technique for releasing the fuel line connector. Keep a few profanities handy.

For future reference.
I read on another forum that if you disconnect the fuel pump and turn the engine over a few times, it releases pressure in the fuel line and makes it easy to release.
I was cynical at first, but I tried it and wow, it just clicked out.
Done it a few times since and it really does work.
I wouldn't want to put too much brute force onto that connector.
I reckon it could break real easy.
